Turn Up the Heat!

But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones… Jeremiah 20:9

All three of my children are coffee drinkers and all three like to drink their coffee the same way – black with no sugar or cream. This is funny to me because I am not much of a coffee drinker at all unless it is Christmas time and the coffee has peppermint and whipped cream in it!

But one thing I do have in common with my children and how they drink coffee is that we all like it hot. In fact, a barista helped me find that right temperature to ask for when I come into the coffee shop during my holiday visits.

Once, I took too much time to drink my sweet concoction and it became lukewarm and totally gross to me. I wanted to spit it out but used my manners and swallowed it.

And then it reminded me of what God says about being lukewarm:

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16

God wants our spiritual temperature sizzling! Here are a few ways we can turn up the heat:

Our prayers:

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent (hot, burning; glowing) prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16

Our worship:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:37

Our enthusiasm:

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Ecclesiastes 9:10

Living for God should never get cold. If you are struggling with being on fire for the Lord, seek Him and search His Word to turn up the heat in your life!
