He is Greater Than I

I had the absolute joy of visiting my son and his family in Hawaii when my granddaughter was only three days old. Along with the beauty of the island was the beauty of seeing my family I had not seen in over two years.

During my visit, I saw a window decal, similar to the one pictured, on my daughter-in-love’s car window. I asked her what the letters and symbol meant. She had to point out what should have been obvious to me – He is greater than I.

My reaction was one of amazement and a little shame because there it was, a powerful truth, plain as day and I didn’t even see it. I knew right then I had to have one of these decals, so my family later took me to the local beach shop where they were sold.

Wherefore thou art great, O Lord God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. II Samuel 7:22

One of the first things I did upon my return home was place the decal on my car’s rear window. Something unexpected started to happen each time I drove. I became less agitated with the commuters all around me.

Drivers not driving the speed limit tend to frustrate me, so I’ll quickly go around to pass the slow driver as soon as I can. I did this one day and immediately, I felt a gentle nudge on my heart and remembered the significance of the decal on my rear window.

I want anyone who sees it to be blessed by the message, not distracted by my driving!

I see the message daily and it reminds me how great our God is. Admittedly, I can forget sometimes, if but for a fleeting moment, that God is greater than any problem, challenge, obstacle or fear I face.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

What an assurance that God is greater than we are, greater than any problem, greater than the enemy of our souls and just…Greater!

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. Psalm 95:3
