Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
I desperately needed a break. I was physically and mentally drained from work so I went to sit down on the sofa for just a few minutes.
But once I sat down, this long To Do list started rolling through my mind. How was I going to get it all done if I just sat there?
The list would not stop playing in my mind and needless to say, I reluctantly rose up, and tackled that To Do list!
Completing that list did not magically refresh me so I turned to God’s Word to see what He has to say about resting. I was delighted to learn that God wants us to have rest on a daily basis. Not just sleep, but rest.
God Himself rested and even blesses our rest:
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Genesis 2:2-3
When life is hard and a constant struggle, God will give us rest from the very struggles, trials and hardships we face:
That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity…Psalm 94:13
Then there are times when we need to rest from the “crowds” in our lives:
And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. Mark 6:31
Our true rest is found in the Lord:
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him… Psalm 37:7
Do you need rest? Let this be your prayer:
Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. Psalm 116:7
Get some rest!
