Keeping In Sync With God

I recently bought a fitness tracker through my insurance company because of the benefits they offer for meeting certain fitness goals. The device has to be synced to a computer or via Bluetooth on my phone in order to record daily fitness data.

Initially I would sync the device through the computer but I wanted anytime access so I downloaded the app to my smartphone. The first time I tried to sync to the app instead of through the computer, I kept getting a “FAILED” message.

I thought I was following the steps in the instructions. Then it hit me. I had to have the app opened before pressing the SYNC button on the tracker.

This may have been so obvious to most people, but it wasn’t to me!

Something else happened during my failed attempts to sync the fitness tracker. If I want to stay in “sync” with Jesus and continue hearing from Him, I have to make sure I am connected to His love.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. John 15:4

I must keep communicating with Him, reading His Word and keeping His commandments to love Him and love people.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

Our relationship with Jesus brings us into His will – and we are in “sync” with Him. We may not always understand what the Lord is doing in our lives and that’s OK. As long as we put our trust in Him for He knows best, He promises to lead us.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

And just as my fitness tracker encourages me to meet certain fitness goals, God encourages us to grow spiritually to keep in sync with Him.

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. II Peter 3:18
