Not a Queen but Still Royalty

My mom and I were sharing a memory from when I was a teenager. I and two other young ladies entered a competition in a local community organization. The winner was going to be crowned Queen and the two finalists would be crowned Princess and Duchess.

I came in third place and was crowned Duchess. I thought I would feel sad for not winning first or even second place. But once that crown was placed on my head, all I felt was joy. I was royalty!

My father walked me in for the royal court presentation at the reception and I could tell by the big smile on his face how happy he was too. This memory made me think of how our heavenly Father sees us because as our King Jesus, He considers us royalty.

Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Isaiah 62:3

When Jesus died on the Christ for our sins, He wore a crown, but not one of royalty. It was one of thorns, but it signified the incredible sacrifice He made on the cross for you and me.

And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head. Mark 15:17

And because of His great love and sacrifice on the cross, He wants to give us a few crowns.

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Psalm 103:4

When we seek God for wisdom and knowledge, He promises us these crowns:

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. Proverbs 4:9

…the prudent are crowned with knowledge. Proverbs 14:18

The Lord tells us to care for what He has given us and to guard these crowns:

Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Revelation 3:11

What a glorious day it will be when we all get to heaven, for there will be crowns waiting for us there:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day… II Timothy 4:8

And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. I Peter 5:4

The best part of having all these crowns is we get to lay them at the throne of Jesus:

The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power… Revelation 4:10-11

You and I may never be crowned as royalty here on this earth. But through Christ, we are all royalty!
