Ready to Fight

Ready to fight

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Psalm 24:8

I was bullied in Jr. High and High School. I wasn’t the type of person who would fight back verbally or physically and there were some mean girls I went to school with who knew it.

I would get picked on and made fun of and I would act as if it didn’t bother me. I was pushed down the hallways, at the bus stop and on the walk home from the bus stop. And yet I did nothing to retaliate. Then one day, I’d had enough.

It was after school and the same girl who bullied me day after day came at me to pick a fight. I was being picked on and made fun of relentlessly. Something inside of me broke. I slammed my books to the ground, turned around, pushed her to the ground and started punching her.

My friends were shocked and couldn’t believe what I had done. I couldn’t believe what I had done! Fighting was very uncharacteristic of me.

I’m not proud of how I handled the situation and we were both in a heap of trouble. But something amazing happened after standing up to this bully.

I gained the confidence that I really could stand up for myself.

As Christians, we have God’s powerful Word and Spirit on our side to stand up and fight any battle and demon from hell.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37

And if we’re going to fight, we have to know a few things to be victorious. We don’t have to be afraid or back down because God’s Word will help us with each step.

Know what you’re fighting:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) II Corinthians 10:3-4

Know how to fight – your armor and your weapons

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6:13-18

Know when to fight – The Lord will fight for you:

There will be times in your prayer life that you will fight hell. Then other times God will speak to your spirit and tell you that He will fight the battles for you.

Ye shall not fear them: for the Lord your God he shall fight for you. Deuteronomy 3:22

The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Exodus 14:14

In some ways, being attacked by the enemy of our souls is like being bullied. But once you realize you have powerful weapons (His Word and His Spirit living inside you) and you use them, the enemy of your soul will leave you alone.

The enemy will return another time, but God tells us we are onto him:

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. II Corinthians 2:11
