I’m Still Working My Plan

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:21

My family and I went on a vacation to New York a couple of years ago. It was our first time to visit the Big Apple.  We planned for months on the sights we wanted to see and the things we wanted to do.

I had the itinerary outlined for each day of our trip and all was going according to plan until we left the airport! Everyone was so excited that plans were rearranged from the original schedule.

Had I not been open to this change, I would never have experienced my first NFL football game. The best part of the game was that it was being played in an open stadium with freezing conditions and fans cheering for both teams all around us.

This may not sound like fun to most, but it was exactly the way I wanted to experience it. It was an incredible, memorable and fun time!

I started out with one plan, but quickly adapted to the changes my family wanted for their vacation to be as memorable.

My life at times is like planning a trip. I start out with one plan and inevitably, I encounter changes. I like having a plan, but I know those plans may change.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9

I am reminded of a disabled veteran who would like to retire.  Each time I see him, I ask how he is doing and his answer is always filled with faith and trust in God when he tells me, “I’m still working my plan!”

I admire his bold answer. It has taught me to “work” my plan and invite the Lord to help establish each of one of them. I take great delight knowing the Lord’s plans are always better!

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3
