Freedom Costs

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36

It was the 4th of July and the fireworks show had just begun. I was fascinated by the brilliant colors and shapes displayed across the night sky.

But there was one spectacular display that completely mesmerized me. It was in a vibrant red heart shape design.

This huge, bright heart remained visible only a few seconds, but the message God had for me would be long lasting. This message was not only for me, but also for the thousands watching.

I was reminded of so many truths and promises in God’s Word with the first being that Jesus loves me. He made the sacrifice to die on the cross and pay the price so that I could have freedom from sin.

Freedom costs.

With that freedom, we enjoy the benefits of living free from anything that would hinder our relationship with Him. That’s liberty.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. II Corinthians 3:17

We have freedom from condemnation, fear and worry. We have the liberty to be the person God called us to be by glorifying Him with the gifts He blessed each of us with.

We have freedom to love Him, serve Him, praise Him, worship Him and adore Him. He is certainly worthy of it all.

But freedom doesn’t stop there. We love God, yes. But we also love people. That’s justice.

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 (ESV)

Our spiritual independence comes from knowing that when Christ made us free, we are no longer under sin’s control over us.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1

Freedom costs. And Jesus paid it all for us!
