Oh So Divine!

God speaks to us in many ways and oftentimes He does so through His Word. It is amazing how He uses His Word at the precise moment you need Him.

Then the word of the Lord came unto me saying, Jeremiah 1:4

One of those moments came through a fierce battle of courage I was going to have to fight. I didn’t know initially it was going to be a battle, but God did and He prepared me for it through His Word in the book of Jeremiah.

This battle was going to include two individuals with decision making authority. It was going to involve confrontation, which like most people, I avoid as much as possible.

God’s Mercies, New Every Morning

I was working on a very important document recently, and I stepped away for a few minutes. When I returned to my desk, I was horrified to find my computer was restarting. I had not saved the important document.

This is very unlike me as I constantly save my work. I had to start all over again. I was suddenly hit by the idea of how significant this empty, white space was before me.

I Know the Maker of the Rain

I used to be so afraid of thunderstorms, not as a child, but as an adult! This fear lasted until I started serving the Lord.

One night, I was awakened by loud thunder and bright flashes of lightning. Instead of doing what I always did, hide under the blankets in fear, I walked to the living room and opened the curtains.

The rain poured down and the black sky lit up with each flash of lightning. The thunder boomed loudly, but instead of fear gripping my heart, the loud sound penetrated my soul with God’s assurance that He would be with me through the storm.

Make the First Move

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises…II Peter 1:4

God and His Word are true, faithful and powerful. And there are numerous scriptures that I absolutely love. Reading through some of them recently, I noticed a pattern.

Many of God’s promises involve us making the first move. He then promises to do something in return.

Let’s look at a few of these precious promises:

His Light for My Steps

Steps

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Psalm 119:133

I was talking on the phone with a friend one day outside of my workplace. I was standing on the next to the last step of the stairs when I skipped the step in front of me and fell onto my knees. Talk about humiliating and painful!

I was so embarrassed because not only had I known the step was there, but a coworker who was parking his car, saw the whole thing. He ran over to assist me, and in that moment the thing that hurt the most was my pride!

Freedom Costs

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36

It was the 4th of July and the fireworks show had just begun. I was fascinated by the brilliant colors and shapes displayed across the night sky.

But there was one spectacular display that completely mesmerized me. It was in a vibrant red heart shape design.

This huge, bright heart remained visible only a few seconds, but the message God had for me would be long lasting. This message was not only for me, but also for the thousands watching.

God is a Promise Maker & Keeper

And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. Genesis 9:16

My husband and I went for a drive recently after a very severe thunderstorm. When we reached the stop sign at the entrance to our subdivision, we saw the most breathtaking double rainbow.

Seeing the rainbow in all its glory was a powerful reminder that God is a Promise Maker and a Promise Keeper:

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he  should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken,  and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19
