I was devastated. It was my 10th birthday and nobody remembered! My mom, who always made a big fuss over birthdays, forgot and left for work without saying a word.
It had been a busy morning. We had family visiting and as soon as they left, my mom had to rush out the door to work. I hadn’t said anything because I thought surely any minute the celebration would start.
But it didn’t happen. I was forgotten.
This wasn’t the only time in my life I felt forgotten. There have been difficult moments in my life where I felt God had completely abandoned me. Thankfully, I had already learned God will never forget me:
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands… Isaiah 49:15-16
Have you ever felt forgotten by God? He died on the cross because of His great love for us. And He’s always thinking of us:
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! Psalm 139:17
There will be times in life when we experience sadness, believing that everyone, including God, has forgotten us. We may be faced with health issues, financial struggles or relationship problems. But God is there for us and will be with us through it all.
And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8
God has not forgotten you and He never will.
As for my birthday celebration that year, my little brother and I walked to the corner store and he bought me a doll as a gift with his own money from his piggy bank. And my mom later made a big fuss over me because I was not forgotten at all!
