God Calls Us Friends

I have been blessed with some amazing friends and I can share my joys, struggles and sorrows with them. They have seen me at my best and worst. They are friends I can trust to be honest with me. Honest enough to tell me how I really look when we’re shopping and trying on new clothes!

A friend loves at all times Proverbs 17:17

A couple of these incredible friends have moved away and I don’t get to see them as often, but we do keep in touch by phone calls, text messages, occasional visits and social media.

Friendship with these precious women isn’t always fun, laughter or shopping. There’s been tough, yet loving conversations, rivers of tears and much needed teaching moments which brought about growth in our relationship with each other and with our God.

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

Although my friends are the best, there have been instances in life when none of them were available when I needed help and a listening ear or I just wanted to share some exciting news.

This happened on more than one occasion but I took Jesus at His Word when He said:

I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you (John 15:15).

Our friends will not always be there for us and that’s OK, because God is more than enough. Jesus not only calls us friends, He showed us His great love when He gave the ultimate sacrifice for each of us.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

I have some of the dearest, treasured friends and I thank God for each of them.  But isn’t it a wonderful comfort to know that God calls us friends and we can talk to Him anytime about anything because He’s the greatest Friend of all!
